If I Were Brave..

So this weekend, I was at HOBY Maryland and of course we heard our favorite motivational speaker, Sandy Queen, on Sunday. She always sings and signs to Jana Stanfield's "If I Were Brave," especially meaningful this year after she shared the story of how HOBY '06 Kwami Williams is following his dream. Kwami is in Ghana with Campus Crusade for Christ (we're praying for you Kwamkwam! We missed you so much this year!). He is from Ghana and had always wanted to go back, and these 6 weeks are his opportunity to do so.

Got me thinking that Ecuador is definitely my way of being brave. To me, most of the time, it doesn't seem brave, because I am just too excited to go! But the things I've been discerning throughout this whole process - not being able to come home at all, no cell phone, limited Internet access, missing Search and HOBY weekends, working with the poor, speaking Spanish all the time, living in community - makes me realize this is the "never losing faith" lyrics.

Kwami says that he understands the sign for faith (two fists on top of each other) is like grasping onto a rope. Sometimes you are hanging on, and other times you pass that rope to someone else, if you need their help to hold it for a bit. But then you re-grasp and can sometimes hold someone else's rope for awhile!

Patrick Rombalski says, "The “success” of our program lies heavily upon the degree to which you keep your community and your experience centered on Christ." So thank you to Sandy for reminding me that this is my time to do one big brave experience -- and I will certainly be relying on God and all of you during all of these challenges!

Here's a video of Sandy in action - thanks Robby! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpVsHMBjeZA
